The New Mahindra XUV300 could Make You Impressive

For a lot of people, especially its fans, Mahindra XUV300 is an excellent vehicle in many ways. First of all, it is a car made globally, which means India is just one of its markets and it can be sold as well as admitted by the consumers in other countries. And then come to its style and design, which are unprecedented compared with the old Mahindra car and I think Mahindra has done a great job about this, giving people a new impression of the Mahindra. Now Mahindra offers the XUV300 with an automatic alternative, which is very good, at least you have one more choice, and the automatic variant is along with an AMT gearbox. Is this automatic gearbox suitable for the XUV300? We need to find out in many ways, not only just its engine and performance but in a comprehensive way.

Driving Performance

Engine and Transmission

Mahindra has offered the XUV300 with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine and the diesel, the same as the Marazzo, is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. Besides, they were available only with a 6-speed manual transmission at first and now XUV300 offers a 6-speed automatic manual transmission (AMT) for its diesel version. But sadly, Mahindra won’t provide an all-wheel-drive variant for the XUV300.

Steering and Handling

I must say that both petrol and diesel engines of the XUV300 are really impressive to drive on the road. Maybe it is lighter than the Marazzo and Mahindra has done some upgrades for the SUV, I can feel the steering is more responsive and accurate. Also, you need less effort to overtake on the road. The clutch is light as well, which makes you easier to switch the gear but the AMT variant is funnier as well as more smooth. Although there’s some vibe when you start up the car, this is negligible to complain about.

The fuel efficiency tested by Mahindra starts at 17 and reaches up to 20 kmpl, the petrol variant, which only offers a manual transmission, is 17 kmpl and 20 kmpl for the diesel engine, including manual as well as automatic gearboxes. These data is acceptable in the segment, not so good but not so bad if Mahindra is not boasting.

The Mahindra XUV300 is based on the Tivoli of Ssangyong so you may feel the XUV300 looks similar to the Tivoli but Mahindra says every panel is different from the Tivoli. The front of the XUV300 is more radical but tidier. The slim grille decorated by chrome looks like its sibling, the XUV500. On the side, the XUV300 reminds me of the Hyundai Creta, they look similar. The diamond-cut alloy wheels give you a sense of luxuriousness. Go to the rear, the high-set tail lamps with smooth LED elements make the XUV300 look strong as well as powerful. And the appearance of the rear is utterly different from the Tivoli, even better than it. Besides, the XUV300 AMT variant provides the “autoSHIFT” package to make it more stylish.

The angular headlamps that stretch to fog lamps under them make the vehicle more rugged and the sharp LED DRLS make it unique on the street. By the way, the taillights at the rear also gets LEDs.

When I got in the Mahindra XUV300, thanks to its theme of black and beige and the dual-tone dashboard, I could feel its exquisiteness. It also offers the latest 7-inch infotainment system which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and other options for navigation and entertainment. What’s more, there is a push-button start/stop, auto-dimming IRVM and a dual-zone fully automatic temperature control. What’s more, XUV300 has a well leather-wrapped steering wheel with comfortable bolsters

Instrument Cluster

The instrument cluster of the new XUV300 is very good-looking and the design of it matches the theme of interiors very well.

The space for the driver and passenger is good and it is easy and not crowded for three people to sit at the second row.

I think it can be considered as the first premium compact SUV of Mahindra. Also, it looks nice and offers abundant features for consumers. In addition, the powerful engines make you fully enjoy your ride. It may not have the best interior and the price is not so competitive but these don’t stop it from being an impressive and confident SUV.
