Pros and Cons Of Tata Nexon: All You Need To Know

Overall

Tata Nexon is one of the hottest local models among B-segment SUV, and so, Tata Motors has distributed its BS6 production line which including the Nexon 2020 facelift on 23rd January 2020. The latest facelift of Nexon has adjusted the appearance on detail, and also the adoption of a whole new design style for the wheels, the front bumpers, and taillights except for the launched engine with BS6 emission standards.

After a while, The Tata Nexon EV Version is released. This is because if Nexon desires to be continuously successful in the Indian B-segment SUV red sea market, it has to compete with other strong production line competitors, which are among the local brand of Mahindra XUV300 and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue with the top sales, and the unpopular but excellent in mechanical quality-Ford EcoSport. Therefore, the analysis of Tata Nexon will be done to see whether is it suitable for you among these B-segment SUVs in terms of Pros and Cons.

Pros

Ground Clearance

A higher chassis can help to increase the off-road capability, passability and also practicality which is remarkable for India where the road conditions are complex. Normally, the car's ground clearance will not be introduced specifically but the ground clearance of Tata Nexon is almost the highest level in its class level which achieves to 209mm.

Safety

In terms of safety, Tata Nexon is the first local model in Indian which received a 5-star rating on Global NCAP. In the full-spec Nexon, it has twin front airbags and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), which not only helps to achieve the crash tests with excellent results and also proved its competitiveness towards Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. While in the top-spec model, Nexon is equipped with rear parking sensors and a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines, front fog lamps with cornering assistance, rear fog lamps and speed-dependent auto door lock features. And meanwhile, Nexon also offered the advanced active safety technology and electronic stability system, which consist of Traction Control, Rollover Mitigation, Emergency Brake Assist, Hill Hold Control, Electronic Brake Pre-fill, and Brake Disc Wiping. In this case, the safety of Nexon is greatly improved by all these features and techniques.

Exterior

Tata Nexon has adjusted the appearance details of Nexon in 2020 facelift as mentioned and adopted the latest Tata IMPACT 2.0 design language in terms of exterior. Overall, Nexon has an angular and muscular appearance, there is also the adoption of new design with front Daytime-Running Lamps and projector sleek headlamps at the front part. At sides parts, it has the design elements of dual-tone paint scheme with a contrasting roof and 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and along with the piano black ORVMs which is refreshing and increased the sporty look. Besides, fog lamps are equipped for both the front and rear of the car, and also the delicate design of horizontal "Y" shaped LED taillights.

From my view, the coupe-inspired roof-line is the most eye-catching place which shows the sporty look and ensures the spacious in the interior space at meanwhile. However, The conservative and moderate design of Nexon may have a better market share compared to Tata Altroz which has been designed exaggeration and aggressive.

Interior

In terms of interior, the 2020 facelift doesn't change so much in which still adopted the younger dual-tone paint scheme from overall. Plus, the high-spec model of this generation Nexon is equipped with a racing-style electronic dashboard, a similar three-spoke multifunction sport steering wheel to Tata Altroz and some adjustable vehicle settings inside the 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Tata Nexon also comes with three driving modes: City, Eco & Sport, which is regarded as a First-in-class feature. Besides, the most impressive thing is Nexon's Harman Kardon 8-speaker sound system which highly comments from the users'feedbacks that it increased the luxurious level of Nexon.

Cons

Ride Quality

Nexon is not sport-oriented although this is one of its driving modes due to its higher chassis and softer suspension, which will affect Nexon in manipulating, and also there is no telescopic adjustment for steering. Besides, Nexon's NVH is worse than its same level competitors especially when drive-in high-speed has become its disadvantage. One of the reasons is because the equipped of Nexon's three-cylinder gasoline engine will sacrifice the ride and stability while reducing the mileage, and then increased the certain noise which cannot compare with the four-cylinder engine. Unfortunately, you have to endure the annoying noise while listening to music even though it has a very pleasant sound system.

Space

The interior space of Nexon is unsatisfied, which the space for rear seats is quite narrow and fronts are still barely passed. This may be awkward if three adults sit at the rear seats and it is unacceptable for a sub-compact SUV. Another shortcoming is that despite it has many storage points but ineffectively used, even quite difficult to accommodate a 1.0L bottle properly.

Features

Although Nexon has equipped with lots of practical and even cool features according to the features list, it is disappointed to hear from users' feedbacks. For example, Infotainment's touchscreen features are ineffective, navigation function is often disconnected; the user's command recognition is not accurate enough for voice commands in actual use and some users are mentioned that the high-spec models parking camera has a blurred vision which inconvenience to use. We can only hope that Tata will do adjustments and changes in the future since these issues are already affected the user experience.

Powertrain

Tata Nexon range comes in both petrol and diesel options. In the latest BS6 model, the output of the 1.5L diesel engine is consistent with the old diesel engine, which is 110PS and 260NM. There is an improvement in terms of data of the three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with the output of 120PS and 170NM. Apart from that, the gearbox options also remain the same as the BS4 version -- a 6-speed manual and an AMT. From the data, the powertrain level of both diesel and petrol engine are passed.

Tata Nexon Price

Tata Nexon prices start at Rs. 6.95 lakh for petrol and goes up to Rs. 11.20 lakh. The prices of Nexon diesel variants start at Rs. 8.45 lakh and the top-end diesel is priced at Rs. 12.70 lakh. This price may not be competitive to other competitors obviously but it is quite sensitive for the B-segment SUV potential consumers, therefore we are expecting more preferential space for the modified models in the future.

Conclusion

From the review, we found that the new Nexon is still quite competitive. If you are looking forward to a sport and personalized appearance, not desire for spacious interior space and insensitive for the noise (mostly the younger consumers), the Nexon is relatively suitable for you. One more thing that has to say is that the second-hand preservation rate of this car is not high especially compared with Japanese and Korean models or the German models. Of course, this is also the issue that faced by the Indian local brand car currently.
