Pros And Cons of Ford Figo: All You Need To Know

If you wish to consume a Subcompact Hatchback but tired of the mainstream models such as Maruti Suzuki Swift, Baleno or Hyundai i20 and etcetera, then you should take a look at Ford Figo. The word "Figo" comes from Italian which means "cool" in English. The first generation of Ford Figo was unveiled in Delhi in September 2009 and it can be considered as a scaled-down version of Fiesta MK V since they shared the same platform. Apart from the Indian market, Ford Figo has also done well in South Africa, the Middle East, and Mexico market. The most impressive is its manipulation and power, which may be the most fun drive of hatchback in 10 Lakhs except for Polo GT TSI. Today, let's understand this America Subcompact Hatchback from the terms of Pros and Cons.

Powertrain Combination

1.2l Ti-VCT Petrol MT

1.5l Ti-VCT Petrol AT

1.5l TDCi Diesel MT

There are three engine options of Ford Figo, including an 1498 cc 4-cylinder diesel engine produces a max power of 100bhp at 3750 rpm and a peak torque of 215 Nm at 1750-3000 Rpm; an 1497 cc 4-cylinder petrol engine which dragon engine family with a max power of 123bhp at 6500 rpm and a peak torque of 150 Nm at 4500 rpm (only in the mid-spec Titanium); and an 1196 cc 4-cylinder petrol engine generates a max power of 96bhp at 6500 rpm and a peak torque of 120 Nm at 4250 Rpm. In terms of the transmissions, it offers a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT as well. The petrol one comes with all-aluminum construction and is much lighter than the older unit, and according to Ford, it also has a much better fuel economy. The three engines, either petrol or diesel are having impressive powertrain but the improved powertrain is still a bit far from Swift's K-Series engine.

The handling and ride quality performance of Ford Figo has done just as excellent as the last generation. Plus, the lightweight of steering can be manipulated easily and precisely. It gets independent MacPherson strut with coil spring and anti-roll bar upfront work in tandem with a semi-independent twist-beam with twin gas and oil-filled shock absorbers at the rear. The suspension setting is just right to absorb minor bumps on the road. In the meanwhile, you can feel the limit of the car through the certain body roll when turning and the brakes feel strong while the pedal feel is sharp but progressive.

The exterior of the latest Figo is also impressively, in which the line is smooth and elegant overall and looks sporty. One of the highlights is the "Aston Martin-Esque" Front Grilles at the front that same like other Ford models. On the side, the blacken rood and black 15-inch alloy give it a contrasting complexion that people can recognize it from miles apart. The sporty decals, fog lamp bezels, rear bumpers and blacken b-pillar offer its unique charm. Sadly, it missed some feel-good features such as projector headlamps, daytime running lamps, which become a disadvantage when comparing to the competitors especially those Asian cars.

Figo adopts lots of black hard plastic on the interior and the suspension design uses for the 7-inch touch infotainment system which looks more three-dimensional in the center control. But the system doesn’t supports with neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto. In terms of other features, it also has push-button start, power-adjustable ORVM’s and turn indicators on ORVM’s.

As mentioned, Ford Figo is missing some important features, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, also the projector headlamps and daytime running lamps on the exterior, which become a great disadvantage for Figo.

Ford Figo dimensions 3941 mm in length, 1704 mm in width and 1525 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2490 mm.

The interior space is still a matter for Figo, which a tight headspace especially for the second-row passengers. This may not be a suitable choice for those Indian consumers who pursuit practicality.

In fact, Ford Figo puts more focus on manipulating and powertrain which similar to VW Polo but is insufficient for the practicality model, this may be one reason that Figo cannot be the mainstream model in the Indian market. However, Ford Figo is relatively suitable for those who have a limited budget but still pursuing manipulation and the fun of driving.
