When Maruti Suzuki introduced the new Alto 800 with a new engine which fits the BSVI norms, it has taken one step further than other carmakers in the entry-level hatchback segment in India. Although the selling price now is higher than before, it gets freshly updated kits as well as additional compulsory safety features, which make it safer and better than the predecessor. Sadly, the new Alto 800 is only available in just two variants, which are the manual transmission with petrol and CNG engines. The Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is a good vehicle for lots of people who often commute in the city and quiet as well. It also has good fuel efficiency like other Suzuki’s cars.
Engine and Transmission
For the petrol version, underneath the hood is the same 796cc petrol engine as before, delivering 48bhp @ 6000 rpm and 69Nm @ 3500 rpm. Maruti Suzuki has upgraded the software as well as hardware to improve the exhaust system to make it compliant to the BSVI.
Steering and Handling
Thanks to the new tubeless tyres which can offer great grip on the road when you are driving, the handling and steering of the fresh Alto 800 are better than the old generation. And the performance is good because of the new F8D engine.
It is very unfortunate that Suzuki doesn't offer automatic gearbox variant for the new Alto 800 and just only manual transmission matching petrol or CNG engine for consumers. According to Suzuki, the data of the Alto’s fuel consumption is 22.05 km/l for the petrol engine and 31.59 for the CNG version, good mileage for a car like this.

The exterior of the all-new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 now looks great owe to its aero edge design. It now has a new grille, a revised headlamp at the front and renewed bumpers, which are parts of big changes I mentioned above. The profile is also modified by Suzuki to make it look better than before and Maruti Suzuki claims that this new Alto 800 with great differences fits the upcoming crash and pedestrian safety regulation in India. Besides, Maruti Suzuki declares that the fresh Alto 800 meets the ‘End of Life Vehicles’ (ELV) obligations as well and that means the car is now 85 per cent recyclable and 95 per cent recoverable, an amazing environmental-friendly vehicle to our world. What’s more, it now offers body-coloured bumpers, outside door handles, bodyside fenders, bodyside moulding and full wheel covers for its customers, which make it more appealing than the old generation when you take a look at it.
With the dual-tone dashboard perfectly combined with the AC ducts and the stylish speedometer, the interiors of the brand-new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 now gets a very different style from the predecessor. The new bottle holders at the front and rear make the Alto 800 more practical as well as convenient. There are also other abundant features including an audio system with USB, Aux-in and Radio integrated with Bluetooth connectivity and AC with heater. Interestingly, the new Alto has a function called Smart Play Dock with Bluetooth connectivity, which transforms the phone into a touch interface to access calls, music, navigation and so on, this makes the car more premium.
It doesn't feel as comfortable and convenient as its opponents such as Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-GO and its cargo space capacity is not so good either. In addition, the rear seat is good for two adults and crowded for more than two.

The all-new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 gets a new engine for the BSVI norms and new safety features for the upcoming safety test. The Price is friendly to most of the people but not so outstanding among its competitors. Mileage is good because it’s a small car with a 796cc engine. You can see the big changes in its exteriors as well as interiors. The standard options for the colour are abundant but the safety report in 2014 is bad. However, Suzuki has claimed that it has made some improvement on the Alto 800’s safety, maybe we need to wait for the latest report.
