Volkswagen Polo Keeps Performance and Practicality at the Same Time

Review

The Germany automaker has rolled out the refreshed Polo with few changes both inside and outside, especially its look doesn't have big changes in so many years since it was born. The Polo has always been considered as a good and popular hatchback thanks to its European-style look and famous build quality. Volkswagen has offered three variants for the Polo - Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. Also, Polo has a GT version with good performance. Priced at about ₹ 6.43-11.21 Lakh in New Delhi and I think this is a very competitive price to other hatchbacks.

Driving Performance

Engine and Transmission

All versions of Polo can have a 1L MPI 3-Cylinder In-line Petrol Engine or a 1.5L TDI 4-Cylinder In-line Diesel Engine but only matched with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The petrol engine can produce a maximum power of 76ps @ 6200rpm and torque of 95Nm @ 3000-4300 while the diesel variant is 90ps @ 4200rpm and 230Nm @ 1500-2500rpm.

Steering and Handling

The new leather 3-spoke speed-sensing electronic power steering gives me pretty impressive handling. The tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel is very light and responsive. These make you easily drive around the city and handle all kinds of corners. The front suspension is McPherson struts with a stabilizer bar and the rear has a semi-independent trailing arm. All these designs make it a sporty and performance-oriented hatchback.

Mileage

According to the official parameter from Volkswagen, the fuel efficiency of the petrol is 18.78 kmpl while the diesel version is 20.14 kmpl.

Design

If you know something about Polo, you should know that in all these years, it doesn't have too many changes on its look so this time it still keeps its Polo family element. The new honeycomb grille houses the Dual-beam headlamps and I have to say this fresh design looks very good. The wheels fit the vehicle very well and the tail-lamp remains almost the same.

Tyres

Trendline : TL 175/70 R14 (Steel)

Comfortline : CL 185/60 R15 (Alloy)

Highline Plus: HL+ 195/55 R16 (Alloy)

Interior

Dashboard

The overall design of the cabin is simple but comfortable. The dual-tone dashboard looks good along with the all-new centre console. There are silver elements around to make it look premium. The infotainment system has Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. Its touchscreen infotainment now has voice commands and Volkswagen Connect application.

Space

Although the Polo looks small outside, it has lots of space inside for the front bottle holders and sunglass holder. The central console also has a 12V power socket for your phone and a parcel tray to keep your thing.

Conclusion

In terms of appearance, as always, Volkswagen keeps updating while saving its Polo family element at the same time. Driving experience and interior are getting better and better, it’s still a performance-oriented hatchback with comfortable driving. What’s more, the price is affordable for many people and you can get such a sporty car with such price! Value of money.
